Earthquake letter

(LISTEN TO THIS SONG ITS PRETTY NICE AND HOPEFULLY WILL MAKE YOU FEEL HAPPY)
Our thoughts and prayers 🙏 are with the kiwis who have been affected by this terrible earthquake,

I am deeply sorry for what you have been through. I have a great sense of sympathy for you, I hope you are alright and doing well with your family. I know that you have suffered from this awful earthquake but you can overcome this. I believe that all of you are going to be okay and no matter what life throws at you you can be strong enough to pull through it.

I just can’t believe there have been 800 aftershocks! Since Monday's 7.5 quake in North Canterbury. It seems so scary and I hope you are safe somewhere. This earthquake was more powerful than Christchurch's earthquake in 2011, which was 6.3! So this earthquakes magnitude has to be one of the most powerful the country has seen. I am very sorry to hear that 2 people have sadly passed away because of the earthquake.

Seeing all the damages  to your poor city makes me so sad for all those people who   are suffering. I understand that your food and water supply are low but don’t worry cavalry is on the way! It’s already horrible with the earthquake but seeing all those landslides are CRAZY! But don’t worry and have faith that everything is going to be okay because I do!

Lastly I really want to tell you that please don’t be sad because I know that together you can get through all of this! All my prayers are going to have you guys in them. I hope you believe me when I say I really care about you! I don’t care if we haven’t met I just hope with all of my heart that you are happy! So be strong and God bless you.

Rewriting instructions

Instructions should have clear, simple steps so you don’t confuse the person reading them.
Can you make these various instructions easier to understand?

Pick up an egg, gently hit it against the side of a bowl and empty the contents into a clean bowl.

The 100m mens sprint London Olympics

The atmosphere was filled with excitement from thousands of thrilled people sitting in the Olympic stadium in London 2012. Everyone was watching with anticipation as the nine competitors were preparing themselves to run. It was the finals for the 100m men's sprint. All the competitors had been training themselves for this very day, and now it was time for them to give it their all.  As the nine runners got ready to run everything went dead silent. Suddenly a voice called out “On your mark... set...”.

BANG! The runners ran as fast as their legs could take them. The crowd went wild, cheering on the runners! You could see on the sprinters faces that all of them were trying to push themselves. The race was only 10 seconds long and in that 10 seconds, the famous Usain Bolt took the lead. In the crowd people were holding up all sorts of flags to show there support to the runners. One of the runners fell behind the rest but the rest carried on strong to the end!

Out came Usain Bolt coming first. He was filled with so much pride and happiness he continued to run around the stadium. Then the media crew arrived, taking photos and filming Usain Bolt. He carried on running around the stadium non stop, The rest of the runners were no where to be seen as the camera’s were mostly focusing on the winners of the race. In third place was Justin Gatlin from USA, in second place was Yohan Blake from Jamaica and lastly in first place Usain Bolt from Jamaica! It was a very short but very exciting!

The dead Father, the daughter and the head tree Highlighted verison

Screenshot 2016-10-19 at 9.49.07 AM.pngThe rain was hard and the wind howled as little Ania walked with her head down to the top of the hill. She was draped with black clothing and in her cold hands was a tiny oak sapling, she was planning to plant it on her Fathers grave. Ania’s Father had passed away due  terrible sickness and had been buried just a few days ago. Ania had visited the grave ever since and wanted to give him a present. Even though the rain was hard and cold Ania pressed on until she finally came to the top of the hill. “Hello Father” she said softly as her eyes gazed longingly at the pile of rubble and dirt. “I… I have a present for you” she said as she presented the grave with the sapling. The inside of Ania was empty and yearning for her Father. She walked up to her Fathers grave and planted the tiny plant on top of it. “I hope you like it, don’t worry about me I’m doing great at home!”. Ania lied. Tears came swimming into her eyes and she could not hold it in any longer. She cried, her tears pouring on to the plant like a watering can. Without her Father she felt alone and scared. After hours of grieving in pain, she stood up and headed for home. “Goodnight” she whispered.

The sun peaked over the horizon and Ania was up bright and early to start her chores of the day. Her Father had owned a farm and they had shared the work load. But ever since Ania’s Father died, Ania had to do everything by herself. She decided to go to town to get some food. As Ania was walking with her shoulders drooping an old friend of hers came up to Ania and said “HEY! Did you see that big tree on the hill! It just popped up out nowhere!” Ania looked at her friend and spun around to see a tall, bold oak tree on the hill. “How could that be?! I just planted it last night!” said Ania, her friend looked at her with confusion. “Last night you couldn’t have planted that last night! I mean look at it!” shouted her friend only to find that Ania had suddenly disappeared! Running as fast as she could Ania ran to her Fathers grave to see what had happened to her oak sapling. As soon as she got there she was surprised to see how big it actually was! Ania stood there in disbelief! “Oh my goodness” exclaimed Ania  she circled the tree, eyes full of amazement. When out of nowhere the tree started to twist and change into the shape of a head!

Ania was shocked she couldn’t even move! The tree before her transformed into a head! Ania didn’t know what to do so she walked up to the tree and quietly said “Hello?” she walked up a little closer until she was just a few meters away from the tree. “Hello my dear daughter!” replied the tree. There was nothing more then silence until there was a giant thud, A few minutes had passed and Ania finally sat up. “OH MY GOODNESS YOU CAN TALK!!!!” she screamed, she jumped up onto her feet and shouted “WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU!!! WELL I KNOW YOU’RE A TREE…. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! ” she continued to talk and while the tree did nothing but listen. Then it decided to speak “I am your Father! I heard you crying so I planted My soul into this tree”, Ania stopped talking and looked at the tree with what looked like confusion and disbelief. “Father?” said Ania, tears came back to visit her eyes once again. Anias head was now swarming with thoughts which were broken by the sound of her Fathers voice. “I love you Ania” it said quietly. Anias eyes swelled up with tears and her eyes began to blur until everything around her faded away...

Pitch black. That was all Ania could see until her eyes began to open slowly. She woke up to see a roof over her head. "What happened??" she said to herself, she looked to around to find herself in her room. "It... It was a dream!" shouted Ania. Ania didn't know what to do, her dream seemed so very real but how did she get in her bed. Ania was so upset, how could her mind play such a sick trick on her?! Ania felt so sad that she couldn't take it anymore. Ania sat up in her bed and began to cry into her hands...

Immersion Assembly T4 W2

Last week on Monday Point England school had there annual Immersion Assembly in their school hall. Where they get to learn what they are going to do in term 4 and this term is all about Science and How matter changes from one thing too another. Every team of teachers created a movie or a play to show their students what they are learning.

The first team to preform was Team 1! They preformed a play where the teachers were dressed as witches and they were throwing ingredients into a cauldron and then they put the cauldron into a fake oven. In the end they pulled out a cake and one of the teachers took the microphone and told the school that they were learning how things can turn into a whole different thing. Second team to go was Team 2. This team showed us a movie of how things change by the change of temperature, like how ice can melt into water and how a liquid egg can be cooked into a solid egg.

Team 3 was next and they are learning about chemical reactions. They had Russian scientists come and do lots of science experiments, like when they put  mentos into a diet coke and it exploded. The fourth team made a parody of Myth Busters. They were busting myths like can Mr Goodwin stay awake without his morning coffee... and he couldn’t. They are going to be busting lots of myths.

The final team was team 5 and they did a play about a scientists doing some experiments on the team 5 teachers. One of the experiments was to see if a teacher could have ice put down their shirt without flinching. Miss Clark had ice been put down her shirt and she didn’t flinch the first time! But the last couple of ice cubes she did.

So overall this term seems to be very exciting and full of science experiments!

My Holiday!! :D

My Holiday…
The holidays for me went by very slow and a little bit boring, but I did have some fun times. One of the fun times was when I went over to my friends house and her name is Alexis. I had not seen her in a long time so I was very excited! When her and her Mum picked me up from my house we all went to the take away shop where Alexis wanted to get some chicken and chips. Me and her Mother waited in the car for ages, talking about college and my newborn niece Giovanah. When Alexis finally came back we went to Mac Donald's where I got a Big Mac. After we got our lunch we went to Alexis house to eat our yummy food! As I ate my Big Mac I got to catch up with Alexis as she goes to Pakuranga Intermediate, we got to talk about college and cool things we got to do at school. We sat at the table for ages until we finally decide to go watch T.V.

Her Mum had to leave for a meeting so it was just me and her at her house. We sat on her couch watching things on YouTube when I told her we should watch Five nights at Freddy's. Five nights at Freddy's is a scary video game where you are in a Pizza place for kids where they have these robot animals that play music for the kids. But at night they want to kill humans and you have to be the night guard and all you have to do is survive till 6am but you have to survive 5 nights. When I told her we should watch she looked and me with a scared look in her eye but she said “okay”. We watched Markiplier play the game, He is a famous gaming Youtuber and also known for playing Five nights at Freddy's. We got a lots of jump scares and Alexis screamed a lot but I didn’t. I jumped but I didn’t make a sound, Markiplier made it funny with his reaction so it was really fun.

When we finished watching Alexis seemed really scared so I decided we should watch something she liked. But after a while she was fine again. I loved every minute hanging out with Alexis and for the rest of the day. We just watched t.v which might sound boring but it was really fun! I stayed at her house until 6pm, in the mean time we listen to some songs and did a little bit of musically which is an app where you lip sync to your favourite songs. It was funny cause I keep trying to run away but Alexis pulls my back in.

That had to be my favorite part of my holidays! I love hanging out with Alexis and I really wish I could see her more. I really hope we can do that again.

Tamaki college Experience day Recount

It was a cloudy day as the year eights of Point England school lined up ready to go to Tamaki college. We were going there to see what college was like by going into college classes. This is also to prepare as for next year when we turn into year nines. I was excited and nervous at the same time, because I always thought that college was going to be hard and going to Tamaki might prove my theory. As we were walking to Tamaki I was happily chatting with my Friend Brooklyn who was my walking partner, we both laughed and had fun walking but the real fun began when we entered the Tamaki Auditorium.

The Auditorium was filled with the sound of foot steps as we all took our seats at the end of the Auditorium, at the other end was a small stage. We were welcomed by Mrs Moore the deputy principal, who gave a small speech about Tamaki and what they expect from us. We were all split into 3 large groups named A, B and C, I was put in group C. Each group were given guides who were Tamaki students, I knew that all of them used to come to Point England. In my group our guides were year eights last year! It was great to see them when we were dismissed by the Mrs Moore our guides took us to social studies.

We traveled for about 2 minutes until we came across a classroom with two teachers inside. In social studies we learnt about a pepeha which is like a speech about where we come from. Then we were given a task where we had to get into a group of 7 and pick a leader of our group. I got into a group of girls and we chose Losekoula as our leader. We also had to chose a speaker to say the pepeha and Mele stood up to say it and I thought she did really well! Our next class was maths! I really like maths so I was excited to go. When we entered the maths class, we sat down and the maths teacher introduced herself to the class. She started to tell us how she actually teaches business but was given the job to teach us some maths. So she began teaches us some algebra which was cool. Maths went by fast and soon after we left to go back to the auditorium for interval.

So far I had a pretty good start. When we were all settled in our seats Mrs Moore was back and told us that former Point Englanders were going to talk to us about Tamaki and give some advice for the kids going there. They gave us some cool advice like when we go to college just be yourself cause thats the best you can be, try your best in school and listen to what the teacher is saying. It was really cool to hear from them and that they made me feel more comfortable for next year. Next was interval! Where me and some of my friends decided to explore Tamaki. It’s small and I found it easy to find my way around the school. It felt a bit weird to be surrounded by college kids, but the feeling soon disappeared when we got to go to our normal technology classes. In our technology classes we go to different classes like Food tech, Graphics, Hard materials and Music. We change classes each school term and this term I was in food tech, and we got to make burgers! My friend Brooklyn and I paired up and we cooked together. It was lots of fun and I loved putting the burgers together. Lunch was after that and it was the perfect time to eat my burger. All the year eights ate outside the auditorium. For lunch everyone was given a Subway sandwich which made everyone full and happy.

Our last class was English and we had to find our classes by ourselves! We were in our three groups and were given instructions to go to the class we were told. My class was called B2 and I was happy that I was one of the first people to get there. When our teacher came she let us in with a smile and we rushed in to the class. Our teachers name is Ms George and she is a really fun teacher. We got to play Kahoot where we had to answer questions about Literacy terms like metaphors and similes. I was really excited doing the quiz because I had learnt about these things this year and do you know what happend… I came first! I was sooo happy and Ms George wrote my name on the board and said she was going to give me a prize next term! After Kahoot we were given the task to create out own timeline which means we had to write down all the major events in our lives. We had to write ten of them and Juliet and I were the first ones to finish!

I had a great time in English but now it was time to move on to P.E. All the three groups met in the basketball court and we met two of the P.E teachers. We were given to options we could either stay inside and play some activities or go outside and do some rugby drills. Since I’m not a rugby player I stayed inside where we played a game where it was like dodge ball but you couldn’t run with the ball, so you had to pass to your team so you could get someone out. It was soo much fun and I got out a few times but thats okay. It was really hard to try and get the ball from the other team without getting tagged. After a couple of rounds we had to go back to the auditorium.

It was a really fun day but it came to an end as we got one final talk from the second deputy principle who told us that college isn’t hard even though it seems to be. Two of our school prefects stood up to thank the deputy principle for the opportunity to come to Tamaki. Then it was time to say goodbye and go home. I had lots of fun at Tamaki and I have now learnt that college is going to be fine next year if I just work hard and try my best! Now I can’t wait for college!!

Rio Olympics Narrative

Screenshot 2016-08-24 at 9.18.32 AM.png

The crowd was waiting with anticipation as the famous Valerie Adams prepared herself to throw the shot. She slowly extended her arm to aim where she was going to throw it. The air was still and Valerie knew it was time to throw the show! She threw the shot with everything she had. The crowd was now silent waiting to see the results when suddenly a Pigeon flew quickly into the arena.

WHACK! The shot flew right into the Pigeon and the two figures came crashing down to the ground. The entire arena sat in shock as they saw the poor bird fall to his doom, someone even screamed in terror. Valerie Adams face went pale, thinking that she was a terrible bird killer! The green grass was now red.

Everyone was still shocked from the events that just occurred. No one knew how to react to this event but the next thing that happen filled them all with relief. Valerie ran to the Pigeon to see that the bird was still alive and breathing. She slowly took the shot of the birds wing to find that the poor bird had only squashed a strawberry and was now covered in strawberry juice. Valerie was so kind that she cleaned the bird using the water from her water bottle and took it to the vet leaving the Olympics for the poor bird. Weeks later the bird was healthy and ready to go back into the world, Thanks to help of Valerie Adams.

This story was made up none of this is true!

Narrative writing

Here is my writing for last week! I liked making this it was lots if fun I hope you like my story!

THE GREAT ADVENTURE!

Inside a small house filled with happiness and light, there was one room that was dark and very messy. This room was complete mayhem and the owner of this room was Noah. Today he would travel over to his best friend’s house, where they would play part four of the most well known game series in the world - ‘The Great Adventure!’ This game included magic, fighting and exciting quests. They loved the game ever since it came out and playing the game made them closer as friends! “Noah hurry up! You don’t want to be late!!” called Noah's mother all the way from the kitchen. It was time to go so Noah quickly grabbed his backpack and sprinted down the wooden stairs. Noah and his mother quickly drove to his best friends house!

As Noah’s mum stopped in front of Thomas’s house, Noah excitedly hopped out of the car and sprinted to the lime green wooden front door! Thomas’s parents loved colors and that’s why their house was so colorful. Noah knocked loudly on the door, then Thomas came down and let him in. They greeted each other and then headed upstairs, Thomas’s room was very tidy and just at the end of his bed there was a big t.v with chips, drinks and two controllers. Full of silent excitement they took a seat and started the game. As soon as they clicked on the start button the room started to spin! What was happening? The t.v began to glow a blood red and the boys began to panic as they tried to run to the door. But they fell into the big black hole, which was growing bigger and bigger consuming the whole room!

It seemed as if they would never stop falling until... BOOM! They finally crashed into a giant bush which cushioned their landing. “Urggggh what happened?” groaned Thomas. The two boys looked around and they both could slightly recognize their surroundings. “WOW!” exclaimed Noah. They were surrounded by trees and up above them was the bright blue sky. Right in front of them was a shining gold title screen of ‘The Great Adventure!’ The two boys slowly got to their feet and started to walk around. Noah began to search around the forest. “Everything seems so real… but it can’t be or can it?” said Noah as he glanced over at Thomas who said nothing. Then suddenly a loud booming voice called from somewhere above.  The voice spoke “Welcome to The Great adventure! We have chosen you both to compete in today's games! it said

Noah and Thomas were very confused but the voice carried on talking it said “You are here to compete in an obstacle course! For we are testing a new system to be in one of our levels. If you pass you can go home” Showing them a long path way to a door surrounded by trees. “but if you don’t you have to stay here forever!!” said the voice. Noah and Thomas took one look at each other when an orange bubble started to surround them. Noah and Thomas tried to escape but it was too late! When they were completely surrounded the bubble began too spin and spin, until POP! They had been teleported to a giant arena. Neither of them said a word, until they were taken inside the arena by medieval soldiers and put at the start of the obstacle course. They both looked at each other with determination. “We can do this” said Noah as he got ready to sprint.

Thomas looked at the race ahead of him. They heard the voice and it shouted “Ready… get set … GOO!”. The two boys ran for their lives and the first obstacle was to climb over a giant pile of boulders, Thomas struggled at first but carried on. Next was the type rope walk. Noah was in the lead and tried to rush his way across but ended up nearly falling off. While Thomas took his time and made it across. Coming up third was the Spike Canyon where they had to drink a potion of jump boost, to jump over the canyon! It’s more difficult than it sounded! Thomas ran to the table where two bottles sat on top, panicking Thomas chugged down the potion and jumped as far as he could.  Luckily he landed on his feet and carried on running. Meanwhile Noah was desperately trying to catch up and when he did he made a terrible mistake! As Noah sprinted to the table next to the Spike canyon, he grabbed the last potion and took one big gulp. He then jumped as high as he could, but he jumped so high that he went up into the cloud’s.

Noah had no idea where going to land and hoped it was on the other side of the canyon. But he was wrong! He was going to fall in the hole right near the other side. Noah screamed his head off. As he was falling Thomas heard him and stared, his face full of horror. He witnessed his best friend fall to his doom. Noah was terrified and the only thing he could see around him was a pitch black darkness. But as he was falling he decided that this was it, the end of his life until he heard a faint voice call to him. “Noah wake up! Come on Noah get up!” the voice whispered and to Noah it sounded like his mum! Just then Noah started to open his eyes and he looked around and saw he was in his room safe and sound. It must have all been a wild dream. Noah got up and looked around. He still felt the shock from falling, but he also felt safe to be back in his bed. “Man that was one weird dream” said Noah as he hoped out of bed getting ready for the day.

Journey to the top with no air!

In the month of May hundreds of people have made a very risky decision, they have decide to climb up Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. Ever since last years tragic avalanche which was caused by the Nepal earthquake, which killed 24 people. No one has dared to climb up. What makes the situation even worse none of them brought bottled oxygen with them.

Already 4 people have sadly passed away on their journey and only a few of the climbers  will make it to the top without oxygen. Most mountain climbers would recommend bringing bottled oxygen with you but these hundreds of people have not! I have asked some people from Point England school to see what they think. Marilyn say’s That it is not a very wise idea.

If you want to climb up this mountain make sure to remember to bring bottled oxygen. Also you could do what Ed Viesturs did, which was after every step take 15 breaths in and out. Which may seem like a lot but up on that mountain the air gets thinner and thinner. That's why you need bottled oxygen but never forget to take caution.

ILuminate recount

On a normal Tuesday Point England School was blessed to have a special dance group come and preform for us! They were all the way from America and they were called Illuminate! It was a very joyful time as the whole school gathered in the hall and all the students were buzzing with excitement! None of us knew who was going to perform  but then came the time for the performance.

Suddenly the lights went off and the hall was dark, I heard all the little kids in front of us yelling with excitement and I was very eager to see what was going to happen next! Then I could see three glowing things on the stage! It looked really cool and music started to play! Then the Glowing stopped but a bigger glowing figure came and everyone was so excited and started yelling with excitement! It was so loud!

Out of nowhere 2 more glowing figures came and they all started to dance. It looked amazing but the teachers kept on opening the door and when the sun shone through it made it look a bit funny but still cool with there dance moves! Everyone was having agreat time and they were really good at dancing but then our time came to an end.

When it was finished I felt quite sad, I wish it could have lasted longer, but after the dancers got changed out of their outfits we got to do a Q and A. Some of the questions were funny like "How do you do your dab?" and the result was even more funny. It was a really fun day and I loved watching them it was so cool! Hopefully I will see them again! :)

Things about me

Talofa Lava my name is Erica Lucy Misilei. I’m really excited to be a year seven at Point England School! I am 11 years old and I live in Glen Inns in New Zealand. I am part Samoan and Chinese from my great grandpa. I was born on June the 14th 2003. I enjoy going to my favorite beach, Matheson Bay, with my family. I look forward to going to Auckland Girls Grammar college or AGGS for short in two years time.

My favorite food is yummy delicious butter chicken and a Big Mac. I really love Swimmimg, I would go swimming everyday if I could!! I also love Harry Potter I’m a big fan of the books but the movies leave out most of the detail. I also like to hang out with my friends and laugh out loud with them. I really want a pet but my parents said I couldn’t have one, so when I get my own house I will get a cute puppy which will be a German Sherperd.

My mum runs a playgroup for toddlers at home and my dad is the manager of The Moving Company and they help people move there furniture to their new house. I have 1 big sister who is 26 years old who is married and is a Teacher at Otahuhu college, 1 big brother who is 23 years old and is working as a chef for Coffee Club. Which leaves me as the youngest. My whole family goes to church every Sunday!

I can’t wait to spend time with my new classmates and friends and learn lots of new things from my new and wonderful teacher.

Lucy Camp Bentzon Writing Reflection

Last week on Tuesday morning the year 6 kids of Point England School got up early to get to school before 7:00am to go to Kawau island for our camp.  The Camp is called camp Bentzon and we went there from Tuesday to Friday. At school we waited for the bus to come and take us to sandspit then we had to wait for the ferry to come and  take us to the Kawau Island. We were all in eight different groups like Katz A and B, Kawau A and B, Mansion A and B and Bentzon A and B.

As we got  off the ferry  we unloaded it and carried our luggage to our cabins, then we had morning tea and  then we had free time for the rest of the day and at around 6:00 we had dinner and our dinner was chicken drumsticks with potatoes and dessert we had ice cream. After dinner we had more free time and at 10:00pm we finally went to our cabins and went to sleep.

The next day we had breakfast then Bentzon A the group I was in went sailing. At the beach we waited for our instructor to come. Our instructors name was Peter and he showed us how to sail a boat and gave us tips. Some of us were allowed us to be by ourselves but I had a partner and his name is Matiu he held the rope from the sail while I steered the boat we sailed to a red  roofed house. The waves were bumping making our boat go up and down. When we got to the red roofed house we then turned and sailed back to the beach we did the several times then we sailed back to shore and had morning tea before we went to our next activity.

Our last activity was bivouac. Bivouac is when you build something to cover you, and you have to use the things you have and the things around you like sticks. When we did it we went up the hill where we went for our morning run there is a fitness trail and we did it every morning, and in that are there are a lot of wood and sticks and we used those to build shelter and then we had to pour water on it to see if it was water proof and we have to go under our shelter. As I got under my wood shelter and when the water was poured  I hardly got wet!

I had lots of fun at camp my favourite thing was the food and sailing. My experience at Kawau island will stay with me forever I would really recommend this for the year fives because you get to do loads of fun stuff and learn new things. the things I learnt was the wildlife and how to sail a boat and how to use a compass, I will miss Kawau Island.
