Journey to the top with no air!

In the month of May hundreds of people have made a very risky decision, they have decide to climb up Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. Ever since last years tragic avalanche which was caused by the Nepal earthquake, which killed 24 people. No one has dared to climb up. What makes the situation even worse none of them brought bottled oxygen with them.

Already 4 people have sadly passed away on their journey and only a few of the climbers  will make it to the top without oxygen. Most mountain climbers would recommend bringing bottled oxygen with you but these hundreds of people have not! I have asked some people from Point England school to see what they think. Marilyn say’s That it is not a very wise idea.

If you want to climb up this mountain make sure to remember to bring bottled oxygen. Also you could do what Ed Viesturs did, which was after every step take 15 breaths in and out. Which may seem like a lot but up on that mountain the air gets thinner and thinner. That's why you need bottled oxygen but never forget to take caution.

You've written a very sensible piece of what is a sensitive topic. I really enjoyed reading the part about Ed Viesturs and I think its incredible to take so many breaths after each step - however if it worked and made a difference then it would be a great idea. I think that the idea of taking bottled oxygen with you anywhere is really strange but someone who is climbing Mt Everest is making a huge undertaking to do so, its not like climbing Moun Wellington. Fantastic thought provoking post Lucy, perhaps you are thinking of attempting to climb Mt Everest yourself at some point?
