L and V Problem Solving T1W4

We're are learning to solve whole unknown problems using multiplication/division strategies. I think these questions were easy and they were very interesting.

Return of the Moa?

This term we are learning how to understand new vocabulary. I found out some scientific vocabulary like bioethics which means the studies of issues of arising breakthrough biology and medicines. We read the book Return of the Moa and had to find the meaning of some words. I thought it was fun learning about the Moa and De-extinction, I really do wonder what it would be like if the Moa was brought back.

Nga Pakanga o Aotearoa

This is my reading for week 2 and 3. It was fun learning about the wars when NZ was against British. I hope you might learn something to :) 

Lost in the gloomy forest

A bright blue house on Nova road was full of the smell of mouth watering bacon. The smell of this sweet bacon flowed into Cassy’s nose as she started to wake up. Cassy Develt is a cheerful and loving 11 year old girl, she has hazelnut brown hair braided into a plat and has baby blue eyes, she has a large imagination which she can get carried away by. As she was about to happily hop out of bed she was attacked!! By her little adorable 4 year old brothers, who were twins and very devious leaving little pranks all over the house. They both had brown hair like Cassy but had big cute dark brown eyes, one is named Willie who is two minutes older than his brother Billie. “HURRY UP AND GET UP CASSY!!” exclaimed the two little boys, Cassy reassured that she was coming so the boys leaped off her bed and ran to the kitchen, Cassy then got up and skipped all the way to their bright kitchen. Today they were going on a nature trip! Cassy squealed with excitement as she entered the kitchen because she just loved the outdoors and so did her little brothers.

“Good morning Cassy” said her kind mother as she put the final batch of sweet  scrumptious bacon and eggs on the table, “morning” replied Cassy as she took her seat on their oak wooden table. Again her father had brought tons of his paperwork to the table, Cassy’s dad was a lawyer and he had been very stressed lately because of a recent case with his client. “I have already packed everything we need for the trip, this is going to be a lovely break for your father” explained mum. But her father didn’t look to happy, “There is too much work for me to do, I can’t go on the trip, I have to finish all this work now!” said dad sadly. But in the end mum convinced dad, so it looked like they were all going as a family! When their light grey car was packed with all the things they needed, everyone climbed into the car and they were off! Cassy was imagining all the cute animals she might see like  a cute little bunny or maybe a opera singing rainbow bird! She just couldn’t wait!

They had been in the car for around 20 minutes and now they were surrounded by trees with golden brown leaves. Then all of a sudden the car came to a big stop, mum jumped out of the car with enthusiasm but dad slowly exited the car he still didn’t look happy. First thing to do is get Billie and Willie out of their car seats, then get all their things out of the car. Cassy was so excited that she almost fell over when she hopped out of the car! Once everything was ready Cassy's parents went to get a guide. Cassy decided to explore the forest looked so magnificent and there were all sorts of trees like tall trees, short trees and even weird looking trees. The leaves were either golden brown on the tree or on the ground and as Cassy was exploring she started to imagine all sorts of things which carried her off to her own little world.

As Cassy was exploring she started to wander off and disappear through the trees! She didn’t notice where she was going and was getting more and more lost every minute! Cassy was in the dark and misty park of the forest where there wasn’t a single drop of sunlight. Cassy  heard a strange scary voice from behind one of the trees.The voice said “ Come here child come hear…” Cassy panicked she knew you that not to reply back so in the heat of the moment she ran as fast as lightning she ran! But as she was running she heard the voice again but this time it was like there was a million of them. “stop running” the voices said and then as she was running faces started appearing on the trees and these weren’t happy looking faces they were terrifying faces! Cassy shut her eyes she didn’t want to see anymore. this isn’t what she imagined and she wanted to go right back home! But then with a loud crash Cassy tripped over a tree root because she wasn’t looking where she was going and face planted into the crunchy leaves. On the ground Cassy just started to cry and cry she never felt so alone in her entire life she wished she was back with her family.

Meanwhile Cassy’s mum final got a guide to show them around so she gathered everyone but Cassy wasn’t there so mum shouted “CASSY COME ON WERE GOING!!” but there was no answer, so they searched for her in the car but no Cassy and then they looked around the forest but no Cassy. Cassy’s mum started to fill up with worry and was just shouting Cassy name everywhere to see if she would come but they couldn’t find her. So the guide went to get help and left the worried parents and sad twins all alone. “Oh Cassy where are you?” sighed mum. Cassy was still on the ground nursing her injury's and then she said bravely “I shouldn’t be afraid I can do this” and summon all the courage she had left and stood up tall and looked around her. She could barely see and all the mist was making it a little bit hard for her to breathe but she pressed on and walked in the direction she came from. It began to get cold and Cassy didn’t know where to go next. To be honest Cassy was still a bit scared she might hear the creepy voice again reassured herself it was just her imagination. It seemed like forever when the guide finally came back and with him 11 people came to help look for Cassy and one was going to go into the black helicopter with a white stripe to see if she could see her. They all came together and Cassy’s mum and dad told them what Cassy looked like and when they were all prepared they set off to find poor Cassy.

Cassy was getting tired of walking to her it seemed like she was walking for ages. Cassy decided to stop to take a break and thought to herself what if she never gets out of the forest alive? Cassy tried to stay positive but tears trickled down her face and she felt in her heart that all hope was lost. Back to Cassy’s mum everyone split up far and wide to find Cassy, even the twins tried to help. Soon after that the helicopter took flight and watched over from above. Cassy’s mum felt so scared and worried that she began to cry, Cassy’s dad gave her a hug and told her “Don’t worry I’m sure she’s fine” and of course everyone hoped so. Cassy was still siting down back in her little world and imagining she was back at home safe and sound when she heard a growl! She sat up straight and looked around to see what made the sound. Then a wolf makes an appearance, Cassy remembers what she learnt about wolves with her class and thought that there would be more because wolves hunt in packs unless this was a lone wolf. She was frightened to the bone, she didn’t know what else to do but scream! She screamed as loud as a banshee which catches the ear of the helicopter pilot that turns the helicopter to follow the scream of poor Cassy.

Cassy was cornered scared out of her mind, she had her back to a tree when the wolf was about to make his move but then she heard something very loud it seemed like the sound was coming closer. The wolf looked frightened and fell over as it was running away, Cassy’s eyes were wide with surprise at how lucky she was. Cassy was confused she didn’t know who this person was, the person might just kidnap her! But the sound of the person’s kind and calm voice made Cassy feel safe, The pilot shouted “DON”T WORRY CASSY I’M COMING TO TAKE YOU BACK HOME”. The rest was a blur to Cassy, the only thing she remembered was having a sore voice and was being carried to the helicopter, she felt so grateful and she cried tears of happiness as they flew back to her parents. Cassy’s mother was still searching for Cassy and was starting to feel hope was flying away like a bird flying from the nest. She decided to turn around when she received a call from the guide saying they found Cassy! Cassy’s mum had a giant smile from ear to ear and so did her father, the twins were leaping with joy! They just couldn’t wait to see their loving big sister. Cassy was waiting for them by the car with the pilot, there was silence until Cassy spoke. “What’s your name?” Cassy asked the pilot replied with a smile and said “Kate” is what she said when Cassy’s family appeared from the forest, they looked so eager to see where Cassy was and when they spotted Cassy they all ran like the wind to give her a big hug!

“Oh Cassy I’m so happy to see you” exclaimed Cassy’s mum as grabbed Cassy and embraced her in a giant hug and everyone else just joined in. Cassy’s dad had no words he just wanted to hug his daughter! Cassy was so happy to see her little brothers they were being so cute as they said together “we love you Cassy!”, so adorable thought Cassy. The Develt family decided it was time to go home and rest, Cassy tried to tell her parents what she did in the woods but her voice was to sore to finish the story. When they arrived home she went straight to bed. After all this Cassy learnt to watch where she was going and not to get carried away when she is imagining all sorts of fun and creative things. That brings everything to a conclusion.

Maths for 2016

This year I am in Mr Wiseman  maths class and we have learnt to rule out our maths book so when we read what we wrote it can be seen and understood. We also learnt today statistics, where we learnt about what it means. It means the study of gathering and analyzing data. We had to analyze the pictogram then answer the following questions that go with it.



Overall I look forward to doing more things with this class and I can't wait to get to know Mr Wiseman. I now I will have a great time learning with everyone and I just love maths.

2016 Reflection

In 2015 I learned to have more confidence in myself and to Siva Samoa by myself! I really enjoyed last year especially getting to know all the year 8's who are now in college. I hope to see them again, they really showed me how to be a leader and kind. I also learned a lot from Miss Harris like algebra and probability. 

This year I want to be the best I can be and learn all I can for college. I really look forward to the year 8 camp I know I'm going to have a fun time! Also I look forward to getting to know all the new year 7's. I hope that everyone will have a great new year because mine has just got a great start like I got to see my auntie who lives all the way in Samoa and I never see her. I'm glad I got to visit her and we got to catch up with each other! Anyway Please leave a comment on what you look forward to this year!
