Sustainability

Today The year 5 and 6 Extension were watching videos about sustainability on The outlook for someday. Sustainability means something that holds up another thing. Here are some hyper links of the videos I watched.

If life was like the web This Video is a good way of showing what life would be like if it was like the web and the problem was that we don't always need to use technology to talk to people and that somethings should stay on the web. The solution is that we have to talk to people face to face.

Being a honey maker This a good video about how we need bees. The problem is that people are killing them even though they help the flowers and give us honey. The solution is not to kill them and show people that they help us.

Beep The Beep is really good to show us what we need to do to help the earth. The problem is that some of us leave the light on or leave the tap running this does not help the earth we are wasting water and power by doing this and we don't recycle there just throw everything in the bin some thing can be recycle. The solution is to recycle and don't leave the light on if you don;t need it and don't leave the water running to help keep this earth healthy.

Symbols

This week the Year five and six Extension group have been learning about symbols. Symbol means a sign of something like the symbol of the girls and boys toilets for the girls its a  symbol of a girl an for the boys a symbol of a boy of course.

We all got into groups of two and we had one minute to talk about one thing that is most important  and then we had to draw it as a symbol. I said my family is important and my Church and Jesus, Mrs Telea was my partner and she said that Jesus is important as well and her family and her baby sister who is not well.

Here is the Symbol that Mrs Telea drew for me

StoryLines Festival

A few weeks ago on thursday the year five and six Extension group went to the Storylines festival where Authors come and present to us. It was held at Auckland Vodafone center.  The authors were Jill MacGergor, Juliette Maclver, Catherine Mayo and Paula Green.

My  favourite  Author was Catherine Mayo. I really enjoyed Catherine Mayo because I like it how she used slides to show us things about Ancient Greece and I also liked the sword that she brought that looked like the sword from her story. She showed us lots of things from Greece. I really enjoyed the Storylines I can not wait for next year.

Elections Billboard

Today the Extension group were learning about the Elections. We were given the task do draw our own Billboard as if we were in the Elections and make up are own party. We learnt what MMP means, It stands for Mixed Members Proportions which means the amount of votes a party gets is the amount of seats it as in parliament you have two votes the next vote is for someone from your local electorate from parliament who ever gets the most votes will become your MMP. To get a seat a party must have 5% of the votes or win a seat from the electorate.

Malawi and New Zealand Dinner

Here is a menu of food you would be given if you went to Malawi which is located at South Africa. In Malawi they don't have enough food so some people die because of it.

I have come to understand that when you look at these two Menus you can see that NZ has more exciting food to eat. When you look at the Malawi Menu you can see it is plain.

I conclude that Malawi people do not have a lot of different food types. They can only eat what they can grow. They don't eat a lot of meat only on weddings or funerals and other things like that.

Making Pizza

Last week on Thursday the Year 5 and 6 Extension group are making pizza for Labour day!! Labour day is a holiday for workers to have a break from work. We learned a lot by reading about Labour. It was first celebrated on the 28 of October on the year of 1840. There were parades that workers could go to have a day off. Lots of businesses were closed for half of the day.

First we planned what we were going to do and find a partner. My partner was  Mary. When we got our pizza base we got our plate and grabbed what we need. We were given grated cheese, green capsicum, pineapple, ham and tomato paste to use for our pizza. The tomato paste went on first. We rushed to get the tomato. We smudged the tomato paste on the pizza. Then we got a huge pile of grated cheese on the plate the we were and put it on the pizza

Then we got a huge pile of grated cheese on the plate the we were and put it on the pizza. We put on eight pieces of ham to show the eight hours of work. It was fun we also got cheese, green capsicum, pineapple, ham and put it on. We were the first to put our pizza in the oven and then we started to write all about it. After all the pizza were baked and ready to eat Collin said a pray. We also got to give some to the teachers.
Me and Mary give one to Miss Garden and Mr J. When I tasted it was yummy!. But it was not all about pizza it was about Labour day.

This is our pizza I hope you like it. Please leave some feedback!
