Sustainability
Today The year 5 and 6 Extension were watching videos about sustainability on The outlook for someday. Sustainability means something that holds up another thing. Here are some hyper links of the videos I watched.
If life was like the web This Video is a good way of showing what life would be like if it was like the web and the problem was that we don't always need to use technology to talk to people and that somethings should stay on the web. The solution is that we have to talk to people face to face.
Being a honey maker This a good video about how we need bees. The problem is that people are killing them even though they help the flowers and give us honey. The solution is not to kill them and show people that they help us.
Beep The Beep is really good to show us what we need to do to help the earth. The problem is that some of us leave the light on or leave the tap running this does not help the earth we are wasting water and power by doing this and we don't recycle there just throw everything in the bin some thing can be recycle. The solution is to recycle and don't leave the light on if you don;t need it and don't leave the water running to help keep this earth healthy.

Lucy Camp Bentzon Writing Reflection
Last week on Tuesday morning the year 6 kids of Point England School got up early to get to school before 7:00am to go to Kawau island for our camp. The Camp is called camp Bentzon and we went there from Tuesday to Friday. At school we waited for the bus to come and take us to sandspit then we had to wait for the ferry to come and take us to the Kawau Island. We were all in eight different groups like Katz A and B, Kawau A and B, Mansion A and B and Bentzon A and B.
As we got off the ferry we unloaded it and carried our luggage to our cabins, then we had morning tea and then we had free time for the rest of the day and at around 6:00 we had dinner and our dinner was chicken drumsticks with potatoes and dessert we had ice cream. After dinner we had more free time and at 10:00pm we finally went to our cabins and went to sleep.
The next day we had breakfast then Bentzon A the group I was in went sailing. At the beach we waited for our instructor to come. Our instructors name was Peter and he showed us how to sail a boat and gave us tips. Some of us were allowed us to be by ourselves but I had a partner and his name is Matiu he held the rope from the sail while I steered the boat we sailed to a red roofed house. The waves were bumping making our boat go up and down. When we got to the red roofed house we then turned and sailed back to the beach we did the several times then we sailed back to shore and had morning tea before we went to our next activity.
Our last activity was bivouac. Bivouac is when you build something to cover you, and you have to use the things you have and the things around you like sticks. When we did it we went up the hill where we went for our morning run there is a fitness trail and we did it every morning, and in that are there are a lot of wood and sticks and we used those to build shelter and then we had to pour water on it to see if it was water proof and we have to go under our shelter. As I got under my wood shelter and when the water was poured I hardly got wet!
I had lots of fun at camp my favourite thing was the food and sailing. My experience at Kawau island will stay with me forever I would really recommend this for the year fives because you get to do loads of fun stuff and learn new things. the things I learnt was the wildlife and how to sail a boat and how to use a compass, I will miss Kawau Island.

Being a Good Friend
WALT: explain to your reader what being a good friend means
Friends… What are friends? Friends are people you can play with, talk with and they can comfort you when your feeling sad. They will be there for you no matter what. if you have a friend that is unkind and greedy to others then thats not a good friend.
Being a good friend means that you are kind to all your friends no matter how different they are. If one of your friends is sad or lonely don't just stand there and look at her(or him) do something! Try to make them feel better or go find a teacher so they can find the person who made them feel sad. Don’t be mean because thats not a good way to be a friend.
If you are new to a school and don’t have any friends try and look for one and make sure there the right friends. Don’t choose mean friends because no one likes mean people, try to look for these things Kindness, Loyalty and generosity. Look really closely to find those three or two things. When you find them introduce yourself to them and start talking to them.
What happens if your friends fight? Try to stop them fighting so you can talk about it and find what the problem is or find a teacher to help stop them and then talk about. But what if there hitting and punching each other? Pull them apart and get them to calm down after that take them to a teacher or the office so they can sort any injuries and then the problem.
Everyone should have a friend no one should be lonely and if you see someone lonely go and play with them. We are all human and special in our on way and I hope this helps you with your friends.

Symbols
This week the Year five and six Extension group have been learning about symbols. Symbol means a sign of something like the symbol of the girls and boys toilets for the girls its a symbol of a girl an for the boys a symbol of a boy of course.
We all got into groups of two and we had one minute to talk about one thing that is most important and then we had to draw it as a symbol. I said my family is important and my Church and Jesus, Mrs Telea was my partner and she said that Jesus is important as well and her family and her baby sister who is not well.

Lucy Capitals
WALT: Write an explanation telling people what capital letters are and when you use them in writing.
Do you know what a Capital letter is? A Capital letter is a bigger version of a little letter (AKA lowercase letter). Capitals are not always the same shape as the lowercase letter like the capital letter R it does not look like the lowercase r.
This is one of the times to use a Capital letter. You can use a capital letter for someone’s name for example “My name is Lucy Misilei” There must be a Capital letter at the start of a name and at the start of the last name because it shows respect to the person’s name.
Another time to use Capitals is the start of a title like the title of a movie for instance “ I watched the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Monday” or you can use it for Brands, Games, Shops, and Books like Harry Potter or Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
You can also use it for geographical places. Geographical places means places like a country, ocean, city and continent. Here are some examples, New Zealand, Pacific Ocean, Auckland
and Europe.
This is the marks I give myself for paragraph 4
Everyone knows that you have to put a Capital letter after a full stop but did you know you do that with question marks and exclamation marks too. Question marks and Exclamation marks have dots under them and look like this ?! the dots are like full stops so after a question mark or exclamation mark you put a Capital letter for instance “ I’m so happy! I can’t wait to go to Rainbow’s end”.
I conclude that you must put Capital letters in your writing! If you don’t your audience will not understand your writing. So remember what I have written and you will be the best writer you can be.

StoryLines Festival
A few weeks ago on thursday the year five and six Extension group went to the Storylines festival where Authors come and present to us. It was held at Auckland Vodafone center. The authors were Jill MacGergor, Juliette Maclver, Catherine Mayo and Paula Green.
My favourite Author was Catherine Mayo. I really enjoyed Catherine Mayo because I like it how she used slides to show us things about Ancient Greece and I also liked the sword that she brought that looked like the sword from her story. She showed us lots of things from Greece. I really enjoyed the Storylines I can not wait for next year.

Elections Billboard
Today the Extension group were learning about the Elections. We were given the task do draw our own Billboard as if we were in the Elections and make up are own party. We learnt what MMP means, It stands for Mixed Members Proportions which means the amount of votes a party gets is the amount of seats it as in parliament you have two votes the next vote is for someone from your local electorate from parliament who ever gets the most votes will become your MMP. To get a seat a party must have 5% of the votes or win a seat from the electorate.

Cross Country article
Headline:Annual Cross Country
WALT: Use the structure of newspaper articles to write news reports
The Cross Country at Point England School. Years One to eight Children are preparing for a Massive run by running everyday.
Team four is the most serious about getting fit for Cross Country. They run about one kilometer everyday single day and they do it twice. The year 5 and 6 kids do it before Morning tea and some come back in time to have their lunch but some are not fast enough to have lunch. Some are getting really fit but some are just lazy.
Here we have Katarina from Point England School to tell us what she thinks about Cross Country this is what she had to say “ Its fun because we get to race our friends but its boring because we get tired”. I asked Katarina what she thinks about running everyday for the Cross Country and she said “Sometimes I want to do the run and sometimes I don’t”.
We asked one of the children where do they go for their Cross Country Run. Here we have Ariana to tell us “so Ariana where do you go for your Cross Country?” “ Well I follow cones that are on the ground” Thank you for your time. The Cross Country track starts from the start of the field and run down all the way to the Point England Reserve around the field and back only the year five to six do this. The year one to four run around the field.
At the end of the Cross Country the winners from year one to eight will go on to the in-zone championship and will run more races.

Jacket Article
WALT: use the structure of newspaper articles to write my own article.
Year six fashion switch
Point England School-Lucy
Split the Seniors with the Juniors
They wear it because they feel older and mature
98% of year 7 and 8 buy the Jackets
Kids asked
bit bigger
Point England School’s Year 7 and 8 Jackets. When year 6 turn year 7 they change from sweat shirts to jackets
The cost of the jackets is 55.00 dollars and 98% of the year 7 and 8 wear them.It is just one dollar cheaper than the senior coulottes which is 56.00 and the coulottes are black.
The reason the seniors have the jackets is that it makes them feel older and more mature. The seniors are growing so they need a change in uniform to go with how they grow. This is to separate the juniors from the seniors. The seniors wouldn't want to wear the same thing as the 5 year olds they would want something that shows that they are the seniors.
It was picked two to three years by the Point England school prefects at that time. We have interviewed Mrs Flavell the office administrator and this is what she said “We have the different option its just so you can distinguish the senior children from everyone else.” Mrs Flavell said that they had two or three people come in with samples and they showed the children and mostly the prefects and then one style was chosen and got the Point England logo on it.

Lucy Let the Games Begin writing
The Games have begun! The Glasgow Commonwealth Games have started. I am so excited to see the New Zealand team compete in the games I hope they win loads of medals! Did you know that the Commonwealth Games happen every four years and that in 1974 New Zealand held the Games in Christchurch.
I love to swim! At the games I found out that in the womens 400m freestyle Lauren Boyle in the New Zealand team came first and won a gold medal! When I grow up I would like to win a medal for swimming. I can't wait to see what New Zealand does next.
Valerie Adam ever heard of her? Well if not I will tell you she is a shot put champion and has won a lot of medals. She is from New Zealand and has won a gold medal for the Commonwealth games and the olympics. She is 29 years old and was born in Rotorua. She is also a four time world champion.
Did you hear about the silver ferns? They are going on to the Finals of the Commonwealth netball! They won against England when they had only six minutes left by one point! They are going to verse Australia I hope they win the gold Medal.
New Zealand is doing great in the Commonwealth I don't care if we lose it only matters if they do there best. I think Commonwealth games was a great idea because it brings people together from all over the world.

Part 3 of the girl with the mysterious powers The Villan
As angelina strolled out of the apartment her friend who was wearing a black coat lifted her hood so angelina wouldn't know it was her. When Angelina finally left the stranger clamped her foot against the door to stop it from closing. Katniss ( The girl ) is an old friend of Angelina who wanted to know more about her friend so she walked in and had a little snoop around. She got a fright when she saw the strange piece of art. This caused her to bump into one of Angelina’s vase’s. She couldn't help but notice a little red button. She pressed it and acted like she bumped into it. A entry opened and filled the air with the smell of chemicals and something else.
Katniss yelled, “Is anyone in here?” The old lady then started banging on the cell yelling, “Over here!” Katniss went closer and closer and closer to the light and switched it on. She saw the old lady grab something out of her pocket and tell her to come closer. She gave Katniss a potion full of all the powers and said, “Drink up you have to stop Angelina I am giving you all of the powers and I need you to train as hard as you can and beat Angelina because she is turning into a villain” Katniss took the responsibility and drank it. The old lady had a look at her hand and saw vomit. The old lady was so hungry that she ate it! It tasted like chicken sandwiches with mold on it. Katniss yelled YUCK!
After the old lady ate the vomit Katniss lifted the bottle to her lips and took a sip and said it taste like lemon lime and something else… KEEP IN TOUCH TO SEE PART 4
